Introduction
Being
able to Indulge to Western Canada remains a credible option for
your travel plans. If you are not familiar with the term 'Indulgence
Travel' these next few paragraphs should help. Indulgence air passages
enable serving regular members of the UK and Canadian armed forces
and their direct dependents (UK forces dependents only) to travel
in spare seats. Of course, because the aircraft are flying for duty
passengers and freight, spare seats can be few and their availability
uncertain. A seat cannot, therefore, be guaranteed. But do not let
this put you off, there may well be spare seats when you want to
travel.
All
the relevant information is contained in JSP 356, Chapter 5, and
the JSP remains the authority.
Who
is eligible?
There
are many categories of passenger who are entitled to apply for an
Indulgence passage. Serving members of the UK armed forces and their
dependants are certainly eligible. To find the complete list, see
the JSP 356 Chapter 5.
How
do I apply?
Application is to be made on the yellow RAF Form 2768/IND. You must
submit one form for each single journey. The form is straight forward
and instructions on completing the form are contained in the JSP
356, Chapter 5. These forms are available from your General Administration
Office, or you can contact the Services Booking Centre, or ourselves.
For
journeys originating in the UK send the completed yellow RAF Form
2768/IND to:
Defence Passenger Reservation Centre (DPRC)
20 Albert Embankment
London
SE1 7TD
For
journeys originating in Western Canada, you must send the completed
yellow RAF Form 2768/IND to us at:
RAF Detachment Commander
PO Box 174
Calgary International Airport
Calgary, Alberta
Canada
T2E 6W5
For
instance, if you are coming to Western Canada on holiday from the
UK, you will need to fill out 2 yellow RAF Form 2768/IND. Send the
request for UK to Canada travel to the DPRC in London, and the request
for Canada to UK travel to us in Calgary.
You
will receive an 'Acknowledgment' that your application is being
processed.
You
will be contacted when there is a likely offer of a seat. If you
are in Western Canada, you are welcome to telephone us, at any time,
to enquire about your application. Please make sure that you put
accurate call-forward instructions on your form so that we can contact
you.
Applications
are dealt with on a 'date of receipt' priority.
What
happens now?
Well, hopefully, you will be contacted by the DPRC and secure a
seat to Western Canada and you will probably meet us when you arrive
in either Calgary or Edmonton on an RAF aircraft. You can discuss
your return journey request with us and update your contact details.
All that remains is for you to have a great holiday in Western Canada!
When
we call you with an offer of a seat returning to the UK (or Germany),
we will tell you how much the flight costs, and what time and where
you are to report to. (In Calgary, it will be our Check-in Desk).
We usually ask you to arrive at the airport at least 2 hrs before
departure, but that can change depending on our circumstances. The
Check-in procedure is exactly the same as if you are catching a
commercial flight.
How
much does it cost?
The Indulgence fee for flights to Western Canada from the UK (and
vice versa) is C$105 or £47
The
Indulgence fee for flights to Western Canada from Germany (and vice
versa) is C$98 or £41
You
can pay in UK Sterling, UK cheque, Canadian Dollars or a Canadian
Dollars cheque.
Payment
is made at Check-in.
Children
under the age of 2 years are free.
The
fee covers the administration and your meals served in the air.
(JSP 356 has more details regarding this aspect).
Your
baggage allowance is restricted to 44lb (20kg).
Finally
Indulgence passages are offered only on the understanding that the
vacant space is not, at the time, required by priority passengers
or freight, therefore, an offer of an indulgence passage may subsequently
have to be withdrawn at any time up to the departure of the flight.
The uncertainty is one of the hazards of indulgence air passages.
But if you are in any doubt about a passage from Western Canada,
please contact us.
